About

thompsonArt. Food. Community. is an arts integration and enrichment project taking place at the Thompson Elementary School in Arlington, MA during the spring of 2015. Two ceramic artists and educators (Eileen de Rosas and Melody Wolfe Thomas)  are collaborating with teachers to develop individualized workshops that utilize the ceramic arts as a means to deepen understanding of other areas of the curriculum. (e.g. Japanese tradition for grade 2 and Rocks and Minerals for Grade 4).  Students will participate in a ceramic bowl making workshop plus a glazing workshop for each class.  Students will create 2 ceramic bowls, one to keep and one to donate to Arlington EATS, a non profit organization working to alleviate food insecurity in Arlington.

Arlington EATS will be hosting a community meal and Empty Bowls event on May 16, 2015.

This project is generously funded by the Arlington Cultural Council and The Arlington Education Foundation and supported by the Thompson School PTO.
